SWPPP is for Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans. All construction sites in the US are required to have a plan. This plan is used to keep polluted water from going down the drain during a rainstorm. The water becomes poluted because the construction job removes vegetation. Then the storm picks up the loose soil and carries the dirt away. This polutes the water systems.

Sediment remains the number 1 pollutant of our nations waterways

Remediation, "remedies" -- often involves cleaning soil......(etc.), sediment, groundwater and surface water from pollutants, which have contaminated the environment through industrial processes or by accident.

    erosion problems

Construction–Site Pollution encounters the contamination of soils with materials, mostly chemicals, that are out of place or are present at concentrations higher than normal which may have adverse effects on humans or other accompanying organisms.

Most of this "dirt" is the result of poorly maintained erosion measures and structures on active construction sites. This condition is predominantly in the large (macro) pores of saturated soils, and may be ameliorated by soil stabilization practices.

Several Siltation Solutions that contain discharges of silt–laden runoff from developments are:
    1. best management practices, measures
    2. site planning (such as careful construction scheduling
    3. preservation of existing vegetation)
    4. physical installation of structural control materials (such as erosion control mats or silt fencing).

Green remediation is the use of these best management practices (BMPs) to reduce the environmental footprint of actions designed to clean up contaminated media (soil, groundwater, etc.) and return impacted property to productive use

These include the requirements to develop erosion and sedimentation control plans, specifying plan content and erosion and sediment control measures to keep sediment–laden mud from washing into storm sewers and watersheds where it can clog creek channels and choke off aquatic life.

Ex situ soil separation processes mostly based on mineral processing techniques, are widely used in Northern Europe and America for the treatment of contaminated soil. Soil washing is a water–based process for scrubbing soils ex situ to remove contaminants.

Environmental remediation, likewise, is the process of removing contaminants, pollutants or toxins from adversely affected environments.

Thermal desorption, for example, is a proven, cost effective and accurate method for the treatment of petroleum contaminated soils.

Asbestos–contaminated dirty [soil], may be encountered during these soil–disturbing activities. When asbestos–containing materials are damaged or disturbed by repair, remodeling or demolition activities, microscopic fibers become airborne and can be inhaled into the lungs, where they can cause significant health problems.

High–density polyethylene (HDPE) is also used for cell liners in subtitle D sanitary landfills, wherein large sheets of HDPE are either extrusion or wedge welded to form a homogeneous chemical–resistant barrier, with the intention of preventing the pollution of soil and groundwater by the liquid constituents of solid waste.3.

Soil erosion, on the other hand is the process by which the land’s surface is worn away by the action of wind, water, ice and gravity. Natural, or geologic, terra firma is a tremendous factor in creating the earth as we know it today. Except for some cases of shoreline and stream erosion, natural erosion occurs at a very slow and uniform rate and remains a vital factor in maintaining environmental balance.

Your unbiased website of erosion remediation works is dedicated to minimizing accelerated soil erosion with methods that apply Best Management Practices (BMPs) as required by the Federal Clean Water Act (amended by the Water Quality Act of 1987) to reduce nonpoint source pollution to the maximum extent practicable to ensure that soil & water resources are protected from pollution caused by erosion and storm water runoff.

A subscription to your user–friendly sediment control guide provides a wealth of information and range of options for the selection, construction, and installation of soil bioengineering methods, bioremediation practices, and biotechnical slope stabilization products. for governments and citizens alike.
