The primary objective of the National Landslide Hazards Program (LHP) is to reduce long-term losses from these hazards by improving our understanding of the causes of ground failure and suggesting mitigation strategies

Factors that allow the force of gravity to overcome the resistance of earth material to landslide movement include: saturation by water, steepening of slopes by erosion or construction.

Prepare for landslides by following proper land-use procedures - avoid building near steep slopes or along natural erosion valleys.
